There are so many ways to use whipped cream and homemade whipped cream is the BEST! You’ll need 3 simple ingredients: heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla extract.
What’s the difference between heavy and whipping cream?
Heavy cream and whipping cream are essentially the same thing, a dairy product with high fat content. Heavy cream must contain at least 36% milk fat, according to US Food and Drug standards. Whipping cream contains between 30 -36% milk fat.
I prefer heavy cream for my homemade whipped cream. But both will behave for you making your own homemade whipped cream
Granulated or powdered sugar?
You can use either. I can’t tell a difference between the two sugar options. Some may tell you that powdered sugar will create a more firm whipped cream or maybe help whipped cream form faster, but I haven’t seen either in my baking.
Do I need vanilla?
No, not really. When I make copycat Hostess Cupcakes, I don’t use vanilla. When I am whipping cream for the center of a jelly roll or copycat Swiss roll, I skip the vanilla.
When I am making ice cream or coffee topping, I always add vanilla because I love the added flavor in my whipped cream.
